Mera Peak (6,654 m) is the highest permitted trekking peak of Nepal. It stands to the south of Everest and dominates the watershed between the heavily wooded valleys of the Hinku and Hongu Drangkas. J.O.M. Roberts and Sen Tenzing made the first successful ascent of Mera Peak on 20 May 1953. The route they used is still the standard route. There are many other routes to the peak, but none of them are easy. Some of them require crossing very high and difficult passes. This leads to a true mountaineering experience. In the end, all efforts and hard work is paid off with spectacular scenery as Mera provides one of the finest viewpoints in Nepal.  Mera Peak offers a panoramic view of Chamlang, Kangchenjunga, Makalu, and Baruntse in the east and the peaks of Cho-Oyu, Ama Dablam and Kangtega to the west. Everest can be viewed to the north over the massive unclimbed south face of Lhotse and the Nuptse/Lhotse ridge. Under favourable conditions, it is possible to climb the peak and descend back on the same day.

Itinerary Detail

you continue to ascend more gradually all the way to Khare (5000m) at the head of the valley. You’ll have spectacular views, and can see your route climbing towards the ridge en route to the Mera La. Overnight lodge.

DAY 11: ARRIVE MERA BASE CAMP (5300M/17384FT) 2-3 HRS (A, B, L, D)
Leaving Khare you walk on good paths to your base camp just before the glacier. Camping here instead of the windy Mera La gives you a warmer and more comfortable night. After lunch your guide will train you how to use rope and other personal equipment during Peak expedition period.

DAY 12: TREK TO HIGH CAMP (5800M/19024FT) 3-4 HRS (A, B, L, D)
Today you don crampons and head on to the glacier. After an initial steep slope the angle eases off and you walk to the Mera La, with spectacular views en route. From here you can see the rocky outcrop which is your High Camp at 19,024ft / 5800m. High Camp gives superb views of Kanchenjunga, Chamlang and Baruntse to the East, Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse to the North and Ama Dablam, Cho Oyo and Kantega to the West.

DAY 13: CLIMB MERA PEAK SUMMIT (6654M/21825FT) – TREK BACK TO KHARE 6 – 7 HRS (A, B, L, D)
Today a very early morning start is required, and you will start your long day by walking in head torch light. Dressed warmly you slowly make your way to the summit (5-6 hours) where you will be rewarded for all your efforts with the most stunning panoramic views of 8,000m giants, including Mount Everest. From the summit, you head back down to High Camp for an early lunch and then continue down to Khare. Today is a very long day, but extremely satisfying.

DAY 14: SPARE DAY (A,B,L,D)
Incase if weather condition is different so that you need one extra day, you will use this day not lower than base camp. If trip complete and you will come lower than base camp, A,B,L,D does not imply below than base camp.

DAY 15-18: TREK BACK TO LUKLA (2805M/9200FT) 6 - 7 hrs. (A,1B,L,D)
Most people head towards Lukla with a heavy heart. There is something very special about the setting, the villages and the people of the high Khumbu hills and valleys and these memories will help you up the deceptively long, final climb into Lukla. The trail to Lukla follows the upward route as far as Chablung, and then turns off above the village of Chaunrikharka towards Lukla. There are signs beyond the stream at Chablung pointing you in the direction of Lukla. The broad trail, leading uphill to the left, climbs steadily past a few bhattis and the school, then through scrub forests above the school and houses of Chaunrikharka. After a steep final climb there is a collection of houses and bhattis in Tamang Village, a new settlement a short distance from the airport. As you approach the airstrip the houses and hotels rapidly proliferate. On arrival you can finally relax and enjoy a celebratory beer. Overnight Lodge.

DAY 19: FLY TO KATHMANDU. (A,B)
Lukla is situated high above the river on a shelf at 2,800m and as the runway is on a slope there is a difference of almost 60 meters between its lower and upper ends which makes for an interesting take off. Another chance to enjoy this great flight. Please note that flights into Lukla are sometimes delayed due to weather conditions either in fog-bound Kathmandu or windy Lukla; be reassured that our staff in Lukla and in Kathmandu will be doing everything possible to minimize the inconvenience caused if this happens. Your patience in the trying circumstances, which can occur, will be greatly appreciated. On arrival in Kathmandu you will be met and transferred to the hotel.

DAY 20: AT LEISURE IN KATHMANDU. (A,B)
An opportunity to relax and reflect on your adventures and to complete any sightseeing and last-minute shopping. Overnight in hotel.

DAY 21: FLY BACK. (B)
We will serve you appropriate vehicle to transfer you to Kathmandu International Airport as per group size
